Questions?

Differences between a 15hr Med Aide vs. 24hr Med Aide

-The role of Med “Tech” to administer medications does not exist in NC. Both Med Aides either 15hr or 24hr trained are called Medication Aides.

-15hr Med Aide course- covers adult care homes, family care homes, group homes, assisted living facilities. Most people refer to this course as Med Tech training.

-24hr Med Aide course- covers skilled nursing/long term care facilities only.

-The two courses do NOT cover each other.

-If you are listed on North Carolina’s Nurse Aide I Registry with no substantial findings you can take both courses.

-If you are not a Nurse Aide I you are only eligible to take the 15hr Med Aide course.

-Medication Administration in a hospital is a LPN or RN task.

-Both require successfully passing a state test exam offered by Credentia.

-Yes, you can take the 15hr adult care home state exam without going through a course BUT when facility state licensure agencies review Medication Aide employee files you are required to have a course completion certificate please make sure your employer can show proof of you completing a course or completion of modules through your facility pharmacy.
